Ella Austin Signature - In-Frame Shaker in Farrow & Ball Cromarty

Cotswolds

Situated in a small idyllic village in the heart of the Cotswolds, the land this stunning cottage now occupies was originally the tennis courts for the nearby manor house. Now affectionately named The Court House, this long standing stone cottage has recently undergone extensive renovation works.

The entire room originally divided into two smaller rooms, the brief was to create a kitchen for a lovely new open plan living space, in-keeping with the history of the building and the surrounding areas, whilst adding a large helping of modern touches to compliment the client’s unique style.

The natural starting point would usually be a large central island, but with a large open fire being the focal point when entering the room, we needed to design a kitchen with a clear view through the entire space without any visual and physical obstructions, whilst maintaining all the practicalities to maximise storage and preparation space.
Another hurdle to work around was the original staircase, in what is now the left-hand corner of the kitchen, which was subsequently moved back during the renovation works which allowed the countertop unit in this corner to now extend fully upto the ceiling, with a sloped internal cabinet back.

Working closely with the client, we developed a unique “double-winged” breakfast bar layout, with a bank of tall custom-built cabinetry along the back wall. We split this into 2 main zones (or wings!), a prep/cooking zone, and a scullery zone.

Given the unique size, shape and layout of the design, once we had settled on a design concept we decided to template the entire kitchen on-site so we could accurately re-create everything to the nearest millimetre during production, with every piece of cabinetry completely handmade in our workshop.

Handpainted in Farrow & Ball Cromarty, paired with Natural Davos Oak cabinets, handmade solid oak dovetail drawers, and the indestructible Dekton Orix work surfaces (to ensure boiling hot pans wouldn’t be an issue!). The overall interior design and decor is nothing short of breathtaking, whether that be watching the open-fire from the Union Jack chesterfield, or enjoying Sunday lunch on the genuine aircraft wing dining table, the wow factor features in abundance.

Now 15 months since we first started working on this project, some incredibly long hours of designing and planning, and countless site-visits to ensure everything was 100%, and we enjoyed every minute. It was an absolute pleasure to go back and see it finished this afternoon, our wonderful clients finally moved in and enjoying their stunning country home.
